Flowers borne from June till September. The fruit unedible, glossy red, ripening from mid-July till late autumn.
The plant reaches 3-4 m height. Climbs by twining shoots. New shoots are red-violet.
Tolerates average soils as long as they’re not too dry or acidic. In May might be attacked by aphids. Prefers semi-shaded and sunny, sheltered sites. Suitable for growing by arbours, gates, trellises and over other supports. Due to its scent it is particularly suitable for the most frequented parts of the garden, near windows, doorways or benches.
