A Japanese cultivar of flowers 15–20 cm in diameter, consisting of 8 white, narrow elliptic, pointed sepals turning pink towards the margins which are pink-red and slightly wavy. Stamens of purple anthers set on creamy-coloured filaments. Flowers are borne in the second half of May and in June and reappear, although less generously, in August and September. Reaches 2–2.5m height. Climbs by means of leaf petiolae. Suitable for growing along fences, arbours, trellises, poles and other garden supports. It can climb up natural supports, such as deciduous or coniferous shrubs not requiring heavy pruning. Thrives in well-lit sites. Looks particularly attractive against dark background. Well-adjusted to container cultivation.
