Fetching, Japanese cultivar of bell-shaped, nodding, pleasantly fruity-scented flowers, 3-3.5 cm in diameter. Flowers consist of 4 carmine sepals with light pink margins and pointy, strongly curled tips. On the outside, sepals have 5 delicate ribs. Stamens consist of golden anthers on white filaments. Flowers on this year’s wood over a long period – from July till October. Between August and October seedheads add ornamental value. Leaves are 23 cm long and 28 cm wide and consist of 5-9 elliptic leaflets, each 14 cm long and 5 cm wide. New shoots are light green and old ones are brown. The plant reaches 2.5-3 m height. Climbs by leaf petioles.
It is frost hardy, tolerates average, well drained soil. Prefers sunny sites. Looks particularly attractive when intermingled with small deciduous or coniferous shrubs. It is worth planting along garden paths to allow a close view of its elaborate small flowers and to enjoy their scent. Suitable for container cultivation.
