The most ornamental of all Magnolia Vines with deep red, small (about 2,5 cm in diameter) but quite conspicuous flowers in April-May, borne single on long stalks in leaf axils. Flowers are most often bisexual. Pea-sized, deep red berries gathered in nodding spikes. Oval green leaves, 6 cm long. The stems twine round the supports. It requires fertile, moist, but not waterlogged soil. It may freeze during harsh winters. An excellent connoisseur plant. Flowers best admired from close up. Ideal for growing in a sheltered position, close to a wall.
